In an ongoing crackdown on cybercrime, Nigerian authorities at Lagos State’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) have arrested a suspected international fraudster, Abraham Akpojisheri, on June 24, 2025. The suspect was intercepted by vigilant Aviation Security officers while attempting to board a domestic flight to Asaba, found in possession of an astonishing 783 MTN SIM cards.
CSP Daramola Kazeem, spokesperson for the Airport Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on June 26. He stated that Akpojisheri, a 29-year-old from Delta State, had recently returned from South Africa, where he traveled in early February 2025, and was flagged upon arrival due to the large quantity of SIM cards he carried.
During questioning, Akpojisheri confessed to being part of a notorious international network involved in identity theft and extensive internet fraud. According to reports, he used Facebook to create numerous fake profiles with stolen photos and identities, deceiving victims into fraudulent forex investment schemes, leading to heavy financial losses.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect acquired the SIM cards to conceal his identity while engaging in cyber fraud, allegedly using them to hack into victims’ bank accounts worldwide and harvest sensitive financial information from unsuspecting individuals.
