Sowore Calls for ₦500,000 Monthly Salary for Nigerian Police Officers
Human rights activist and 2023 African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has advocated for a significant increase in the salaries of rank-and-file police officers in Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, Sowore argued that there is no justification for police officers to earn less than ₦500,000 monthly while the senators they protect receive up to ₦30 million per month.
“We’re concerned about the people who are really doing the work, and it is time for us to be on their side to ensure that they are well paid, well remunerated, and when they are no longer in service, they don’t become paupers,” Sowore stated.
