In what many have described as justice delayed but not denied, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, on Thursday flagged off the state’s jail delivery exercise with the release of 21 inmates from the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.
Among those freed was Gospel Nwibari, who was reportedly arrested in 2007 at the age of 14 and had spent 18 years in detention without trial or legal representation.
The exercise, aimed at decongesting prisons and addressing prolonged detention without trial, is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to justice in Rivers State.
