Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has called for urgent intervention in the crisis affecting dental students at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), stressing that no student should suffer due to leadership failings.
In an X post on Saturday, Obi addressed reports of issues surrounding the graduation and induction quotas of dental students at UNICAL, urging immediate resolution to safeguard students’ futures.
“No student should suffer due to what I consider a failure of leadership. We must give our youth the necessary education, particularly in critical fields like science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Education in these areas is far too important to be jeopardised by bureaucratic or institutional lapses,” Obi stated.
His comments come amid rising concerns from students and parents over prolonged delays in graduation and induction processes within Nigeria’s medical education system.
