Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has accused President Bola Tinubu of allegedly misrepresenting economic data to conceal Nigeria’s true economic reality.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Obi claimed that the President, who once dismissed his own emphasis on data-driven governance, is now relying on “distorted statistics” to present a misleading picture of the country’s economic health.
“He once mocked the use of data in governance. Now, he’s presenting inaccurate statistics to cover up the economic hardship facing Nigerians,” Obi wrote.
This marks one of Obi’s most pointed criticisms since the 2023 general elections, as he continues to position himself as a voice for transparency and reform.
