The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) under the Federal Health Institutions (FHI) Sector has declared that its ongoing strike will persist until major demands are met.
Morakinyo-Olajide Rilwan, the National Chairman of the union, made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, July 31, 2025. He emphasized that despite a meeting with the Minister of Labour on Tuesday—following the expiration of a 15-day ultimatum issued on July 14—the industrial action would continue.
“We will not suspend the strike unless the government addresses critical issues affecting our members,” Rilwan said.
The nurses are demanding improved welfare, better working conditions, and fair compensation, among other long-standing grievances. They have also vowed to resist any pressure to return to work without concrete actions from the federal government.
