NiDCOM Urges Calm Over Ghana Protests, Rejects Criminal Stereotypes of Nigerians

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has responded to ongoing protests in Ghana, where some demonstrators have accused Nigerians of being responsible for rising crime in the country.

In a statement released on Tuesday, NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, condemned the blanket criminalisation of Nigerians, stressing that such generalizations are harmful and inaccurate.

“Nigerians are not criminals. They are good ambassadors wherever they find themselves,” she said, while urging that any individuals involved in crime should be “fished out to face necessary sanctions.”

Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and Ghana, describing both countries as “Siamese twins” and urging for continued peace and unity under ECOWAS regional cooperation.

The statement, issued by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, called for calm, tolerance, and dialogue to address the rising tensions.
