Mali’s Junta Chief Grants Himself Five-Year Renewable Presidential Mandate Without Election
Mali’s junta chief, General Assimi Goita, has granted himself a five-year presidential mandate, renewable “as many times as necessary” and without an election, under a new law made public on Thursday.
The move, which had been widely anticipated, follows the passage of the bill by the military-appointed legislative body last week.
