The Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has sentenced Abdulrahman Bello to de@th by hanging for the brutal murder of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of the College of Education, Ilorin.
Delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice Hannah Ajayi described the act as “cruel, wicked, and an extreme display of human wickedness.” The court found Bello guilty of the intentional and unlawful killing of Hafsoh Lawal.
However, four other co-defendants in the case were discharged and acquitted, having been cleared of any wrongdoing.
The tragic incident, which shocked the Ilorin community, resurfaced renewed calls for justice and safety for female students across Nigerian institutions.
