Kenya Protests Death Toll Rises to 31, Rights Commission Reports Forced Disappearances

At least 31 people have died in Kenya following Monday’s nationwide anti-government protests, the country’s National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) said on Tuesday, sharply increasing its earlier toll of 10.

The KNCHR also reported two cases of forced disappearances after the protests, which were held to commemorate a 1990 uprising against autocratic rule in the East African nation.

Clashes between protesters and police erupted on the fringes of Nairobi, with the rights body accusing police of cooperating with armed gangs during the violence.
