An Israeli strike on Gaza’s only Catholic church killed two people on Thursday, according to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Israel stated it “never targets” religious sites and expressed regret over any civilian casualties.
Pope Leo XIV said he was “deeply saddened” by the attack, which occurred as Gaza’s civil defence reported that Israeli strikes across the territory killed at least 20 people.
