FG Fines Multichoice Nigeria ₦766 Million for Data Privacy Breach
The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), has imposed a fine of ₦766,242,500 on Multichoice Nigeria for violating the Nigeria Data Protection Act.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Head of Legal, Enforcement, and Regulations at the NDPC, Babatunde Bamigboye, said the commission found Multichoice guilty of breaching subscribers’ privacy rights and unlawfully transferring citizens’ data across borders.
The sanction follows an investigation launched in Q2 2024 after allegations emerged regarding the company’s intrusive data processing practices.
