Air India Crash: Fuel Cutoff Switches Moved Before Impact, Probe Finds
Fuel control switches on an Air India flight that crashed shortly after takeoff, killing 260 people, were moved from the “run” to the “cutoff” position moments before impact, according to a preliminary report released Saturday by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
The June 12 disaster, which claimed all lives onboard, is still under investigation, and the report did not assign blame or offer final conclusions. However, it revealed cockpit conversation indicating one pilot asked the other why the fuel had been cut off, to which the second pilot replied that he had not done so.
The findings raise critical questions as investigators continue examining the cause of the tragic crash.
