A boat carrying 39 passengers capsized in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State on Saturday, resulting in the tragic de@th of 13 individuals.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the incident on Sunday. According to NSEMA’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, Malik Baba Suleiman, 26 passengers were rescued successfully, while all 13 de@d bodies were later recovered and buried according to Islamic rites.
The boat accident occurred during routine river crossing activities, a common mode of transport in riverine communities. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
