Lagos Coroner Calls for Prosecution of Nurse Over Mohbad’s Death
The Lagos State Government’s inquest into the controversial death of musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has concluded with a recommendation for the prosecution of the unlicensed nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who treated the 26-year-old in his final moments.
Delivering the findings, Coroner Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi acknowledged the bullying and harassment Mohbad faced from his former promoter, Naira Marley, and Sam Larry but ruled that there was no direct link between them and his immediate death.
The court also criticised the musician’s father for conducting what it described as a “hasty” and “undignified” burial, stating that legal and medical procedures, including obtaining a death certificate and autopsy, should have been carried out following Mohbad’s sudden death.
The Coroner noted that Mohbad’s wife should have ensured he received proper medical care after sustaining an injury days before his death and should have spoken up regarding the father’s handling of the burial.
After nearly two years of hearings and testimonies from 19 witnesses, the inquest concluded that Mohbad suffered turbulent moments leading to his death, with failures from his family, public institutions, and the music industry contributing to the tragic outcome.
