Kenyan Police Officer to Face Murder Charge Over Shooting of Bystander at Protest

A Kenyan police officer will face murder charges over the killing of a bystander shot at close range during an anti-police brutality rally, prosecutors announced on Thursday.

The victim, Boniface Kariuki, a mask vendor who was not part of the protest, was shot by a riot police officer on June 17 in Nairobi. According to rights groups, at least 50 people have died in the recent wave of protests across Kenya.
