Tinubu Urges Reform of Global Governance and Financial Systems at BRICS Summit

President Bola Tinubu has called for a reevaluation of the current global governance structure, financial systems, and healthcare frameworks to promote greater equity and inclusion for low-income and emerging economies, especially in Africa.

Speaking at the 17th BRICS meeting on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tinubu emphasized that environmental degradation, the climate crisis, and healthcare inequalities deserve more global attention, as they continue to slow growth and development in emerging economies.

Invited by Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, President Tinubu affirmed Nigeria’s support for the BRICS position on collective, fair, and equitable global development.

Nigeria officially became the ninth partner country of BRICS in January 2025, joining Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan in the emerging economies bloc.
