Twenty-nine high school students in the Central African Republic lost their lives in a stampede triggered by a power transformer explosion, the health ministry reported.
The incident occurred early Wednesday afternoon in the capital, Bangui, as more than 5,300 students were taking the second day of their baccalaureate exams.
Amid the chaos, students and exam supervisors attempted to escape, with some leaping from the first floor of the school building in a desperate bid to flee.
